Catwalk Chat…(or a reality check….)
Whilst we may all secretly think we look like Kate Moss, reality is that every season throws up some crazy ideas of what they think you should be wearing …. And like lemmings, we dutifully follow…. And regularly get it wrong!
No 1 rule of fashion – buy what suits and works for you – not what you think you should buy – Winter means invest in classic timeless pieces and skint on high fashion – think Nicole Fahri for the coat and New Look for the jodphurs!!
So to help you all along the road to successful spending, What a Girl Needs has come up with some tips, advice and general all round money saving ways to help you through the minefield that is NEW SEASON!!
Should it be skinny or wide, high waist or hips, long and lean or short and swing, purple or fuschia (very scary and approach with caution!!)
So What’s In…. (or so they say…..)
Fitted Jackets – waisted and in leather – choose what works for you with dress, skinny trousers or jeans
Jeans – hurrah! Wide or skinny (if in doubt go wide - suits all – skinny if you’re skinny and over 5’8”)
Shoe Boots or Ankle biters - so now, but so hard to get right…
Mad for patent - bags and shoes…
Body conscious dressing - stretch fabrics and clever panelling to shape our bodies…Black is back – as if it ever went away…
Belts - wide or skinny - belt in at the waist - lengthens your legs, add style to any outfit …
Bags - they’re everywhere - useful, roomy, on-trend, shiny, buckles, chains….
Shoes and boots – well the highs are high and the lows are low…. sleek, high, sexy and glamourous, shiny - platforms, flats, points, round – pretty much anything goes!!!!!!
Designers we’re loving this season (starting with the obvious but in no particular order!!!)
1. Prada and Louboutin – for shoes
2. Miu Miu – for bags
3. Stella McCartney – for knitwear
4. Chloe – for those black boots!!!
5. Donna Karan – for pure classics
6. Et Vous – for French boyfriend chic (available at Anna – Primrose Hill)
7. Marni, Fendi, McQueen, Accessorize – for accessories
8. Top Shop and Mango – for great high street versions mixed with a bit of Zara
9. Nicole Farhi – for pure essentials
10. Martin Grant and Lanvin – for evening class!!
And for token pattern princesses amongst you – Diane Von Furstenburg and Missoni!!!
It’s not rocket science – think and plan before you invest – one key piece is worth ten cheap imitations!!!!!
